The holiday season is coming to the ETSU Martin Center for the Arts with the announcement of "Dolly Parton’s Smoky Mountain Christmas Carol," arriving Friday, Nov. 13, at 7:30 p.m.
Right Angle Entertainment and Paul T. Couch present the national tour of "Dolly Parton’s Smoky Mountain Christmas Carol," a musical featuring music and lyrics by 11-time GRAMMY winner Dolly Parton and book by David H. Bell, adapted by Bell, Couch and Curt Wollan.
Set in the 1930s in the Smoky Mountains of East Tennessee, this production imagines Ebenezer Scrooge as the owner of a mining company town, where his callous greed blinds him to the joys and gifts of the season. As a Christmas Eve snowstorm approaches, Scrooge is visited by his deceased business partner and three ghosts who compel him to see life anew and discover that love is the greatest gift of all.
The legendary holiday tale, rewritten as a new American classic, features Dickens’ classic characters and Parton’s one-of-a-kind songwriting, making this a holiday event you’ll want to share with those you love.
"'Dolly Parton’s Smoky Mountain Christmas Carol' brings together one of the most beloved Christmas stories of all time with the music and storytelling of an East Tennessee icon," said Jennifer Clements, executive director at the ETSU Martin Center for the Arts. "We’re excited to welcome this production to Johnson City and share a holiday experience that feels especially meaningful to our region."
With Parton’s original music at its heart, the production offers audiences a fresh perspective on a story that has been cherished for generations while celebrating the people, traditions and landscape of the Smoky Mountains.

About the Martin Center for the Arts: The 93,000 square foot ETSU Martin Center for the Arts, located at 1320 W. State of Franklin Road, Johnson City, features three venues, as well as three rehearsal/meeting rooms. Construction on the center began in early 2018 and was completed in fall 2020.
