ETSU Health’s new Division of Surgical Oncology seeks to honor all cancer patients and survivors with a free portrait session to celebrate their strength.

The setup will include a white photo backdrop decorated with multi-colored balloons, with each color symbolizing cancer awareness. Each participant will receive 5-10 high-resolution digital images from their session.

Participants may stop by at their convenience from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 23 and 24. Sessions will take place in the auditorium of ETSU Health’s clinic at 325 N. State of Franklin Road in Johnson City.

ETSU Health Surgery recently welcomed Surgical Oncologist Dr. Jennifer Whittington, MD, Ph.D., FACS, FSSO, to lead the newly created Division of Surgical Oncology. She returns home from prestigious, advanced training and seven years of surgical oncology practice.  

“Being a surgical oncologist is not just a profession, it is my calling,” Dr. Whittington said.

“I pursued the long and requisite training to become a board-certified surgical oncologist because I experienced and truly understand the deep need to have access to this state-of-the-art care to the people of Appalachia.”

Dr. Whittington has extensive experience in robotic surgical techniques and specializes in caring for patients who have cancers of the pancreas, liver, stomach, colon, rectum and those with melanoma and sarcoma skin cancers.  

She leads a surgical oncology team that includes experts within breast surgery and surgeries of the stomach, colon, rectum, skin and soft tissues, liver, pancreas and biliary system.
