East Tennessee State University has reached a new enrollment milestone this fall, welcoming the largest freshman class in its history. A total of 2,288 first-year students enrolled at ETSU, reflecting the university’s commitment to academic excellence, student success and affordability.

ETSU’s total enrollment this fall is 14,506 students, up 118 from last fall. Additionally, ETSU’s first-year retention rates rose to 78.4%, the highest on record for the university.

“At a time when students and families are carefully considering the value of higher education, more first-year students than ever are choosing ETSU,” said ETSU President Dr. Brian Noland. “Our strong enrollment and this historic freshman class reflect the trust students and families place in ETSU to provide an exceptional academic experience, and an accessible, affordable educational pathway that supports students along their journey to a college degree.”

At ETSU, student support is personal. Whether navigating financial aid, building connections on campus or seeking support for veterans and their families, students have access to resources tailored to their needs. The university recently expanded those efforts with the Mary V. Jordan Center, which provides concierge-level support designed to help students overcome obstacles and stay on track toward their goals.

As ETSU grows, it is also making significant investments in the spaces where students learn, connect and thrive. Last month, it celebrated the opening of the new Academic Building, a state-of-the-art facility designed to prioritize teaching, learning and collaboration.  

The university’s commitment to student success goes beyond capital investments. ETSU also prioritizes affordability. Nearly half of all ETSU students graduate with no student loan debt, and Money magazine has once again recognized ETSU on its 2026 Best Colleges in America list, highlighting universities that deliver strong academic quality, affordability and positive student outcomes. Out of more than 2,400 four-year institutions evaluated nationwide, only 735 earned a place on this year’s list.
