ETSU is named a 2026 Top Veteran School by U.S. Veterans Magazine, recognizing its commitment to military-affiliated students and their families.
East Tennessee State University has a long history of supporting veterans, active-duty service members and their families, and in recognition of this, ETSU has been named a 2026 Top Veteran School by U.S. Veterans Magazine.
This honor comes on the heels of the publication’s designation of ETSU as a 2026 Yellow Ribbon School.
“ETSU is honored to be named a Top Veteran School,” said Col. (Ret.) Dan Bishop, director of Military and Veteran Services. “Unlike the Yellow Ribbon designation, which focuses on financial relief, this recognition speaks to the broader commitment we make to military-affiliated students through dedicated services, strong community partnerships and a campus culture that values their experience and contributions. It reflects who we are as an institution and the mission we carry forward every day.”
ETSU, which also earned Gold in the 2026-27 Military Friendly® rankings, provides priority registration for classes each semester for veterans and other military-affiliated students, as well as exclusive access to social and study space and personalized support from Military and Veteran Services. ETSU also offers out-of-state tuition waivers, scholarships and work-study positions for those using GI Bill® benefits.
ETSU’s student organizations for veterans and other military-affiliated students include Student Veterans of America and SALUTE, an academic honor society.
In addition, ETSU assists veterans who wish to start their own businesses through STRIVE, a free entrepreneurship training program offered through a partnership with Syracuse University’s Institute for Veterans and Military Families.
